Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet

Can we talk about how spoiled ya girl is?

Burberry sent me four complimentary products, including two shades from their new Liquid Lip Velvet line. I’ve never tried Burberry because—let’s be real—my budget doesn’t exactly leave room for trying high-end products on a whim (GOALS though, am I right?).

But these products came into my life and swept me off my feet. Hear exactly how below.

Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet | I Think It's Ashley

Left to right: Burberry Lip Definer Lip Shaping Pencil No. 07 Bright Plum, Liquid Lip Velvet No. 49 Bright Plum, Liquid Lip Velvet No. 05 Fawn, Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen No. 01 Nude Radiance

They sent me four products: the Lip Definer Lip Shaping Pencil in No. 07 Bright Plum, Liquid Lip Velvet in No. 49 Bright Plum, Liquid Lip Velvet in No. 05 Fawn and the Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen in No. 01 Nude Radiance.

The first thing I tried was the Liquid Lip Velvet in the shade Fawn. I pulled it out and threw it into my bag to apply at work. As soon as I did, I fell in love. I had previously picked up the NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Bedtime Flirt because I wanted a nude matte liquid lipstick. Sadly, it was way too drying for me to ever want to wear.

Burberry’s Liquid Lip Velvet is this perfect whipped cream formula that’s super pigmented and matte—but a creamy matte that won’t shrink wrap your lips and highlight every crack.

Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet | I Think It's Ashley

Left to right: Liquid Lip Velvet No. 05 Fawn, Liquid Lip Velvet No. 49 Bright Plum, Burberry Lip Definer Lip Shaping Pencil No. 07 Bright Plum, Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen No. 01 Nude Radiance

Fawn is a great everyday nude shade for my lips, which are more brown tone. Bright Fawn is amazing…and I mean amazing. A perfect purple look-at-me-but-not-too-hard shade. It’s not very dark so it’s not a goth purple. Think, “I drank way too much red wine and my lips show it.” But in a good way.

I only had minimal, basically negligible feathering wearing the Bright Plum Liquid Lip Velvet on its own, and only had to reapply once (after lunch) throughout a 9-hour work day. The next night I applied the lip liner first. It looks great on its own, I experienced no feathering when I wore it with the Liquid Lip Velvet on top, and it DOES NOT BUDGE. Like, I couldn’t get the swatch off my arm without scrubbing rullll hard.

The Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen is shimmery and glitter-free. It looks dewy and has a satiny, moisture-rich finish. I’ve only tried it on the tops of my cheekbones, but I’m interested to see how it holds up on my cupid’s bow, brow bone, etc.

I don’t buy high-end product on the reg, but I can definitely see why it can be worth it. The combination of deep pigmentation, staying power and a non-drying formula make these fantastic. My favorite was the Bright Plum Liquid Lip Velvet. I’m all for deep lip colors that I don’t have to worry about throughout the day.

TLDR;

  • Love the awesome pigmentation, creamy-yet-matte formula and staying power
  • Dislike the price—but yes, it’s miles ahead of anything you’d ever find at the drugstore
  • Favorite product: Liquid Lip Velvet (out at Sephora now if you want to treat yo’self)
  • Would repurchase all four
Have you tried the Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet matte creams, or any other Burberry products? Let me know in the comments below, I’m dying to hear about what else I’ve been missing out on!

Ciao for now,

LUSH Bath Bomb Review | I Think It's Ashley
Beauty, Haul, Review

Christmas LUSH Bath Bomb Haul!

I’ve never been a big bath fan.

They’re hot. They hurt my neck. They leave the bathtub all sudsy and your fingers all prune-y.

It wasn’t until I didn’t have a bath anymore that I really started missing being able to take one. I endured 4 years away at college without being able to pamper myself in the tub. But now, just after college graduation, I finally have a tub again. And, boy, have I mastered the art of taking a bath.

I’ve found that perfect warm-but-not-scalding-hot temperature, learned to keep the door open while filling up the bathtub so that the bathroom doesn’t get overwhelmingly steamy, and have been using LUSH bath bombs–the perfect mix of light, delicious fragrances and beautiful H2O colors.

LUSH Bath Bomb Haul | I Think It's Ashley

For Christmas, I got 3 LUSH Bath Bombs. I’m fairly new to their products–I’ve used a couple of their bath bombs (Pink and Butterball), love their stick fragrances, and keep my Mint Julips Lip Sugar Scrub in my makeup bag at all times. I’ve loved the bath bombs in the past, so I was really excited to try out three new ones: Golden Wonder, Lord Of Misrule, and The Experimenter.

LUSH Bath Bomb Review | I Think It's Ashley

From Left to Right: Golden Wonder, Lord Of Misrule, The Experimenter

I’ve only had a chance to try out The Experimenter, but I will make sure to do a review on all 3!

Hope you all had a great holiday season and Happy 2016! Thanks for being awesome readers!

NEW Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner Review

Covergirl Intensify Me Liner

I recently ran out of the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, which I got as a gift and loved, and needed a new liquid liner. I didn’t want to splurge on an expensive brand so when I heard Trisha Paytas mention the new Covergirl Intensify Me Eyeliner in her September 2015 Favorites video, I had to try it out.

The gimmick with this eyeliner is its shape. It’s thin-ish on its side and thick on the other side, like a paddle. I like the shape of it, although the thin side isn’t thin enough for my taste. It’s intuitive for me to use–with a little twist of the wrist you can make a fast, thick cat eye.

Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner (Thick Side)

Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner (Thick Side)

That’s sort of where what I like about this liner ends for me. The color isn’t dramatically dark (I bought the color Intense Black) and the liner is really dry and doesn’t run smoothly out of the felt tip.

Covergirl Intensify Me Intense Black

I have oily lids, I sometimes have trouble with liners smudging, and I definitely ran into that problem with this liner. I would have preferred to purchase a waterproof formula but couldn’t find it in either Walgreens or Target (Target sold it much cheaper in the area where I live, by the way).

Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner

Liner on my eyes, not my favorite

Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner

It does make a good thick cat eye, though. I got compliments on it!

Maybe they don’t offer waterproof yet because it is such a new product, but because of the dryness of the felt tip, I wouldn’t purchase this again.

20151011-132716.jpg

I’m glad I tried the Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner because the tip is a very unique shape but I won’t be finishing this product.

Summary of the Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner:

Price: Cheap

Shape: Love the paddle tip, makes a great thick cat eye. Not a good choice for people who like thin tips.

Formula: Not very dark, dries pretty light, smears on my oily eyelids. Does not come out smoothly from the felt tip, comes out dry.

Would I buy again?: No.

Overall Rating: 3/10

Have you tried the Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner? What did you think? Any suggestions of what liquid eyeliner I should try next? Let me know in the comments!

Thank You California Scrub Co. + The Boho Socialite!

California Scrub Co. Spicy Chai Body Scrub

A couple weeks ago, an awesome Instagrammer I follow, @thebohosocialite, ran a giveaway with California Scrub Co.…and I won! I wanna tell you guys a bit about my experience with this giveaway because I think it’s a great testament to the awesome fashion blogging community.

First, I was super excited to win this giveaway because, let’s face it, who ever expects to win anything through an IG giveaway? My package with the California Scrub Co. body scrub came and I could tell right away that the postal service had done something baaad with the package. It was dripping oil and delivered in a plastic bag (always a good sign, right?).

I let The Boho Socialite know that the package came but the product was destroyed and I accepted it as a lost. It’s a giveaway after all, and the post office was the one that messed up. It was no big deal. To my surprise, she told me she would see if she could have a replacement scrub sent to me. The awesome people over at California Scrub Co. told me they’d have another one sent out to me and within a few days, I received another (perfect condition) scrub in the mail!

The point of my long story is that the sweetness of these fashion bloggers is real and it was awesome to see how far above and beyond both parties went in order to get the scrub to me. I want to thank both The Boho Socialite and California Scrub Co. for their kindness and after finally having been able to try out the Spicy Chai scrub they sent me, I can say I’m in love!

Check out The Boho Socialite on her blog and on Instagram if you want to obsess over her style with me.

California Scrub Co. Site

Also make sure to check out California Scrub Co. on their site and on Instagram for an equally bohemian vibe. I love their scrubs because they’re organic (so my skin is happy) and they use upcycled coffee beans, 100% recycled paper for their labels, and use glass jars, not plastic (so the environment is happy, too!).

Ciao for now,

Lush’s Mint Julips

Yet again, I’m here to tell you how in love I am with LUSH. Now, I know what this looks like. My last two posts have been about LUSH (Pink & Butterball bath bombs), and here is yet another LUSH review. Although I would love to say that I’m a bona fide LUSH addict, the truth is that I’m much too poor and much too new to this LUSH lifestyle to call myself anything other than a n00b when it comes to everything this magical store has to offer. Nonetheless, here is my latest purchase.

Mint Julips Lip Scrub

20150126-150750.jpg

It’s a vegan lip scrub (“A lip smacking cocktail,” the front saucily reads) in the scent Mint Julips.

Tasty mint chocolate sugar lip scrub for smooth moves and sweeter kisses.

The description, as usual, totally sells me on this product. But the product itself is effective and sweet. The directions say to “scrub and buff your lips to softness, lick off the excess then apply your favourite LUSH Lip Balm.” I would add to scrub gently, no matter how much dead skin you’re trying to get rid of. It will buff away eventually and since it’s sugar, rubbing the grains can be kind of harsh on your lips if you rub too hard.

I admit that I find myself applying this sometimes just to lick it off or for the tingles from the mint. Luckily, it’s totally safe to do, and there are enough oils in the mixture that licking my it off my lips and applying lip balm immediately after doesn’t completely dry out my lips. In a colder/drier environment, that may not be the case, however.

Ingredients: Castor Sugar, Cold Pressed Organic Castor Sugar, Cold Pressed Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis), Vanilla Extract (Vanilla planifolia), Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta), Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita), *Limonene, Flavour. *Occurs naturally in essential oils. (This is all according to the product label.)

Unlike some LUSH products that expire quickly, this one says it lasts 14 months.

Do you have any lip scrubs, LUSH or otherwise, that you’re loving? Let me know!

Ciao,

Ashley

POST-CHRISTMAS HAUL PART 1—Lush & Forever 21!

Hey lovely people!

We’re well into January and, yes, I am still celebrating Christmas! As I mentioned in my What I Got for Christmas 2014 post, I received some money and gift cards this year so the first week of the month, I took my Christmas money to the mall to treat myself to a rare shopping trip. And let me tell ya, those four hours at the mall flew by!

I wanted to show you all what I bought as I am really excited about everything! As a broke college girl, getting to go on a shopping spree is really rare for me, so when it happens, I get REAL EXCITE.

20150107-200727.jpg

My first stop was to Forever 21 where I bought two packs of skinny silver rings, both regular and midi. I’m definitely late to the midi trend but Forever 21 is so cheap and had some daintier looking styles (I have SUPER FAT and stubby size 8 fingers so I try to avoid chunky rings that truncate the length of my fingers and accentuate the width).

20150107-200738.jpg

One pack contained plain silver rings with a few rhinestone ones ($3.80), the other had silver rings with the same smooth band but cool designs (couldn’t find it online, was about $6.80). (Pardon the hand wrinkles…)

20150107-200747.jpg

My favorites are the twisted knot rings, the midi one looks like a pretzel, yummm.

20150107-200917.jpg

Also at Forever 21 I got this insanely soft and comfy cowl neck sweater in a fleck pattern of soft blue, white, and dark gray. I couldn’t find this exact one on their website but you can type in ‘cowl neck sweater’ and see other options.

20150107-200925.jpg

I’ve pretty much worn this every time I’ve stepped out of the house since I bought it, I love it that much. I’ll be mentioning it later on the blog, so if you want to hear more about my recent sweater purchases, stay tuned.

20150107-200855.jpg

Okay, don’t judge me for this one, but I bought myself a onesie. Yes, adult footie pajamas are now in my life, it’s white and fuzzy and has a bunny hood and I am NOT ashamed! Being 22 never felt as good as when 1) TSwift released her ode to 22 and 2) I put this bad bunny on.

I actually bought everyone in my family a onesie for Christmas this year and have a really hilarious family picture of all of us in them! Dad is Batman and brother is Superman, both with pockets and detachable capes, mom is a french bulldog and sister is Minnie mouse, both of theirs have hoods. The photo shall never be released but the fact it exists is priceless.

20150107-200825.jpg

I’m not going to show you what I got from Lush just yet because I’ll be doing another post on them (you can see that here), but I bought my first two bath bombs that I am really excited to try out. (Hint: I bought one for the scent, the other because I want my bath to look pretty.)

I got a few other random things with some of my Christmas money that I will show you in my next post, so look out for Post-Christmas Haul Part 2 (you can now find that here)!

Also, comment down below what you got or gave for Christmas or what you’ve bought recently, I love hearing about what other people like as personal inspiration!

Ciao ciao,

Ashley

What I Got for Christmas 2014!

Hello lovelies!

The holiday season has come and gone and now that we are well into January, I am finally past the food comas, incessant carol singing, and obsessive Christmas movie watching that plagues me from November 1 to December 25 every year.

This year, the dark and gray Seattle weather really bogged me down—I have officially acclimated to the Southern California sun and warmth so spending time back in the PNW during Christmas breaks is particularly painful. But now that I’ve woken from my deep post-holiday hibernation, I can finally deliver my WHAT I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS 2014! post.

I know a lot of people preface these posts and videos with a disclaimer (“I’m not bragging, the holidays are about spending time with family, etc.”) but I almost feel that that, somehow, can be insincere. Not because you’re bragging if you make a post like this, but because the reason why people like hauls and “What I Got For ___” videos is because we like showing off cool things we got, and we like knowing what other people got. So that being said, I hope you like seeing some of the things I was blessed with this year!

20150107-195154.jpg

Many of the things I was gifted with this year were from Sephora (because you can never go wrong with getting a girl a present from Sephora, am I right?).

20150107-195312.jpg

The first is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Dark Brown. It’s my second ever eyebrow pencil, the first being one I bought during my early high school years, before it was really trendy to do your eyebrows, in the color blackest black. Long story short, it made me look like the dad from The O.C.

20150107-195329.jpg

But I love the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown (I have undyed black Asian hair, for your reference). It looks so natural, is easy to apply, and the brush on the end is useful if you’re traveling and don’t want to pack extra brushes for your brows.

20150107-195335.jpg

I wasn’t sure at first if this color was dark enough or if I needed a darker shade, but after trying them both out at Sephora, I thought the dark brown looked more natural.

20150107-195320.jpg

Instead of creating a bold brow, it creates a sort of sun-kissed soft look, which I liked. I’m not yet bold enough to pull off the statement brow. After hearing all of the beauty YouTubers talk about this product and brand so much, I was beyond stoked to try it out!

20150107-195346.jpg

Next is the Kat Von D Trooper Eyeliner. I haven’t tried it on my eyes yet but I’ve also heard good things about this product. It was one that I hadn’t even considered buying, so I’m thrilled that it was given to me as a present and that I get to try it out!20150107-195358.jpg

The tip is really fine and the ink held really well when I tested it on my hand. It only budged when I scrubbed with soap and water, but water and rubbing alone didn’t cause it to run or fade.20150107-195407.jpg

The Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown is on the left and the Kat Von D Trooper Eyeliner is on the right. I applied the lines with varied degrees of pressure to show you the difference!

20150107-195415.jpg

Next up were two awesome shades of MAC lipsticks. I only own one other MAC lipstick and the rest of mine are drugstore brands, so it was a real treat to receive these two beauties!

20150107-195434.jpgThe first color is a bright red Frost shade in Viva Glam Rihanna 1 and I am in LOVE. It has bluer undertones than my other red MAC lipstick and I never knew how much of a difference it makes. It looks great as a winter red, although I will probably have to buy a lip liner to put under this as it did feather into my lip lines after a few hours of wearing it.

20150107-195443.jpg

The next is a nearly nude, meaning it goes on similar to my lip color. It’s a Lustre in Syrup and I was inspired to ask for this color because I saw Ingrid Nilsen talk about it in one of her vlogs and instantly fell in love with the way it looks! I’ve never had a shade this light–my lips are a bit darker naturally so sometimes lighter colors make me look sick or pale–but I really enjoy this color as my new winter nude and it goes really well with light frosty eyes! If you ask me, it looks like a spring day in Paris…C’est cool!

20150107-195450.jpg

Above are the two swatches of those lip colors.

20150107-195501.jpg

Lastly, I got a bunch of awesome skincare items!

20150107-195507.jpg

I got two Seacret lotions, one for hands and one for body, and I absolutely adore the Seacret products. They’re made with minerals from the Dead Sea and the Milk & Honey Body Lotion smells so yummy! They’re a pricier skincare product so it is a real luxury to receive these!

20150107-195515.jpg

And finally, I got this Aveda Botanical Kinetics Intense Hydrating Rich Creme. I haven’t used it yet but I have had extremely bad skin problems as of late (uneven skin tone, really dry patches, and red blotches). I think it may be due to California’s pollution because my skin has cleared up being back home in the Northwest, but I know it also has to do with the face products I’ve been using and the drying effect of harsh chemicals. I’m excited to take this back down to school with me to try it out on my skin!

I got a few other things from friends and loved ones that I’m not showing here–not because I didn’t adore them, but because I don’t want to show money or gift cards and I wanted to keep in the theme of beauty and cosmetics–but I am so thankful to everyone who thought of me during the holidays and spent time celebrating the end of 2014 with me!

I did buy a few things with some of the Christmas money and gift cards I received, and I will be showing those in my next post as a haul! (Post-Christmas Haul Part 1 here and Part 2 here.)

Also, I love being snoopy and hearing what other people got for Christmas (I think I’ve watched at least 20 “What I Got for Christmas” videos in these past couple weeks), so let me know in the comments what you got (or gave)!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!

Cheers,

Ashley
